Constantine zlabia with rose water

Instructions

  • Prepare a dough using flour, baking powder and rose water, then leave to rest for 1 hour.
  • Shape the zlabias into spirals or S shapes, then fry until golden brown.
  • Prepare a syrup using sugar, water, lemon juice and rose water, boiling until thickened.
  • Soak the hot zlabias in the flavoured syrup.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving as a dessert, often accompanied by mint tea for a traditional Algerian taste experience.
